The powerful Miranda Priestly, editor of a high profile fashion magazine, needs an assistant. She's been through quite a few and finally decides to give fresh out of college, smalltown girl, Andy Sachs the chance many others would give anything for. Andy knows nothing about fashion and is only given the job because of
her determination not to fail. She submits herself to the most obnoxious kind of servitude all to get a recommendation that could land her a job at any other top magazine. She must do things she never thought she'd do and become a person she never thought she'd be. But how much is too much? How much is a job really worth?
(Miranda and the jabs at the fashion world are a bit meaner in the book)

I can't wait to see or read The Devil Wears Prada. I knew the book was very popular and the movie just looks like a lot of fun. I love Meryl Streep in roles like this and I love Anne Hathaway. Despite the star power, both book and movie got slightly more than mediocre reviews. The comedic elements plus their firm placement in the "chick lit" and "chick flick" genres push both book and movie to the top. Since I'm a chick and I love a good sense of humor, I'm looking forward to a fun read and a fun night at the movies.
The only thing that concerns me is that I've read that the book is meaner than the movie. I can only take so much of rude or mean people - in life or in books. That's just me. So I don't know if I will appreciate the "nasty fun" (as USA Today put it) that's found in the book or not. I also heard that it is similar to The Nanny Diaries. I couldn't finish that book. As a parent, the parents described in the book made me so mad that I couldn't read it anymore! But that was child-rearing, this is fashion, which I don't hold such strong opinions on - so, like I said, should be fun.
